Prof. H. Bosman, the Dean, Faculty of Theology, Stellenbosch University – South Africa paid a courtesy call on the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. P. Wasamba on Wednesday, 25th May, 2016. Accompanying him were, Dr. Ntozakhe Cezula, a lecturer in the Faculty of Theology, Stellenbosch University, Professor S. Akaranga, Chairman, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies and Prof. J. Mugambi.
The duo had earlier held discussions with academic members of staff in the Department of Religious studies on possible collaboration with Stellenbosch University on areas of theology. This was a follow-up on a MOU signed in 2011.
The two quick wins were; proposals to write a joint proposal for possible funding by the Swedish Government in areas of Research and preparation by three members of staff to attend a two day conference in South Africa, from 18th to 19th August, 2016.
The Dean, Prof. P. Wasamba applauded the deliberations and proposed that the two parties comes up with an affirmative action for Joint Research Endowment. Both students and staff from the two Universities would benefit from each other in terms of research and the rich Library of Stellenbosch University.
According to Prof. Mugambi, both Universities should raise funds for the National Research Foundation, where Researchers from both Universities could draw funds for research. Prof. Wasamba gave the go ahead for logistics to facilitate the collaboration to start immediately. He would fast-track the process with the University Management.
Prof. Bosman’s parting shot was “Constructive Co-operation is Possible”.
