Prof. Ephraim Wahome
Dean, Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts is one of the largest and the oldest units of the University. It occupies a prestigious position as an international center of excellence for scholarship and research, regionally.

This Faculty has a proud history of resilience in pursuit of academic excellence. It is founded on the enduring values of freedom of thought, tolerance, inclusivity and service. As the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, I value academic excellence, administrative efficiency, enhanced income generation, transparency, equity, and predictability in payment of direct service providers (DSPs). I am also committed to improved students' support, superior staff work environment, and internationalization of our programmes.

Currently the Faculty has an enrolment of slightly over 10,000 students serviced by a staff of 250 fulltime and 180 part-time lecturers whose ranks range from professors, senior lecturers, lecturers and tutorial fellows. Our lecturers are of high caliber with nearly 80 per cent holding doctoral degrees from local and overseas universities and with vast experience in teaching, research, consultancy and outreach activities. They have published widely and are continuously engaged in a large number of national, regional and international assignments.

Each year the Faculty, through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement  Service (KUCCPS) admits over 900 government-sponsored students to its regular programme and about 1,200 students to its self-sponsored programme.

The Faculty offers diverse, competitive and demand-driven academic programs which range from diplomas, bachelors degrees, post-graduate diplomas, masters, and PhD degrees. Click here to view our academic programmes.

Our graduates find opportunities in government and its associated agencies, non-governmental-and faith-based organizations; private sector,  self-employment as well as in research and training institutions. A number of on-going students and alumni venture into national and civic authority politics. Our students get opportunities to participate in various exchange programmes such as those of the Kalamazoo, Soka and Sasakawa  universities. A number of our students with outstanding academic performance also benefit from various scholarships offered by the government, embassies, educational charities, research organizations and other well wishers. The popular scholarships are the ones offered by the Government of Kenya, Mitsubishi, Chinese Embassy, and DAAD. These scholarships ensure that we develop a strong pool of academic human resource for the future.

Welcome to the Faculty of Arts. Support us to make it stronger and efficient in helping humanity deal with the challenges of the 21st Century.
