UoN and Baden Wurttemberg Stifftung Foundation enter into collaboration
A delegation from South West German led by the Baden Wurttemberg Stiftung Foundation on Monday, February 19, 2024 signed a collaborative agreement on strengthening ties and collaboration with the University of Nairobi.
Annegret Trettin, Programme Manager, Education, Baden Wuttemberg Stiftung Foundation, announced that the Foundation boasts of offering over 1,500 scholarships annually open to all levels of study for both German students seeking to study in other universities and other students seeking to study in universities in Germany. The Scholarship program seeks to contribute to world peace by encouraging education in different cultures. Their programs contribute to mitigating global challenges such as climate change, conflicts among others.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama recanted his expeience of living in Germany. He noted that such collaborations contribute in the making global citizens. He took the guests through the University's rich history and its Faculties and campuses.
Student and staff exchanges, joint teaching and research, were among the collaboration areas that the partnership will address.
Dr. Faith Karanja, a University Lecturer from the field of Geo-Informatics gave an experience of how the partnership between UoN, University of Pretoria and University of Applied Sciences, Germany, has implemented the collaboration since 2022. 65 undergraduates and 1 masters’ student had a chance of going to Germany during summer school. There was diversity and cultural integrations.
The Regional Director, DAAD, Dorothy Weyler, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Enterprise, Prof. Margaret Hutchinson, the Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Brian Ouma, the Deans, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Jack Odhiambo and Prof. George Osanjo were present during the signing ceremony.
